I hope you succeeded with January’s resolution, whether you did it privately or shared your beautifulness with me and the other 12Resolutioneers. If you didn’t, spank yourself and start fresh with February, no one has to know. Wait…did I just tell you to spank yourself? I meant slap yourself on the wrist. Of course that’s what I meant.
Resolution: February… It’s the month for love. Let’s make sure everyone feels it.
1. You can go for the biggin’ and say, “I love you” to those who deserve it. This includes, but is not limited to: your mom, dad, sister, brother, mailman, hamster, crossing guard, twitter pals, bartenders, dog walkers, boyfriends, girlfriends, grandmas, bosses (be careful with that one), CVS cashiers, face waxers…and anybody else your heart pitter-patters for. I know for some of you, that's easier said than done. Or, in this case, easier done than said? Anywho, I STILL fall into this category even though I learned my lesson the hard way. I related to Jack Donaghy far too much during last night's amazing 30 Rock finale. (If you haven't seen it yet, just wait...so good.) People need to hear it. We all do. Say it, say it, say it.
2. You can also go for the classic “pay it forward” or “random acts of kindness” route. As I mention on page 41 of We Hope You Like This Song:
Everyone seems to love the idea of random acts of kindness. We’ve seen it for years in movies, commercials, and books. But how many of us have actually done it in real life? I think we all have the desire to do nice things for people, whether we know them or not, but sometimes it’s just too inconvenient—or [...] too awkward.
3. Lastly, it’s been a big week for preeclampsia awareness. Thanks to Downton Abbey’s heart-wrenching storyline, preeclampsia was all over twitter and other social networks (please follow me @lennykoggins). SPOILER ALERT: As sad as it was to lose a beloved character on a TV show, that doesn’t come close to what it feels like in real life. There are some very smart ladies who know this and are doing something about it. END OF SPOILER. This week, Anne Addison and Jenn Carney launched a project called “Unexpected – A Documentary.” They are hoping to shed light on this condition that terrorizes so many of our favorite ladies. But they need your help to finance this incredible vision. If you donate $100 or more this Saturday (tomorrow), on Groundhog’s Day, a starving groundhog will get 3 cases of pinot. No, no, bad joke. You will get a SIGNED copy of We Hope You Like This Song. Let’s make it the day you show Shelly some love.
Okay, so in summary...
The goal for this month’s resolution is: Leave no one unloved. Well, unless you don’t love them. Once again, I'd LOVE if you'd share your stories with everyone on the WHYLTS facebook page, but if you'd rather go at it lone wolf style, giddy-up!
I'll start now: I love you all. You have helped give meaning to the ugliest thing that has ever happened to me. That's pretty awesome.
